Preschooler's Ability To Decide Whether a Photographed Unfamiliar Object Can Move Itself
نویسندگان
چکیده
Does the preschooler's use of the animate-inanimate distinction reflect knowledge about which category types engage in self-initiated movements? Threeand 4-year-olds viewed photographs of unfamiliar objects, including mammalian animals, nonmammalian animals, statues with animallike forms and parts, wheeled vehicles, and multipart rigid objects, and decided whether each item could go up and down a hill by itself. Four-year-olds were reliably accurate about the movement potentials for each of the five classes of items; 3-year-olds' scores were significantly above chance in all but one category. Analyses of rule use and verbalization data showed that children were concerned about cause of movement and used an animate-inanimate hierarchy. Explanations from both age groups varied, in a consistent manner, the kind of information and criteria used to make inferences as function of the type of item. We discuss how these data bear on a theory of concepts.

Expertise with unfamiliar objects is flexible to changes in task but not changes in class
Perceptual expertise is notoriously specific and bound by familiarity; generalizing to novel or unfamiliar images, objects, identities, and categories often comes at some cost to performance. In forensic and security settings, however, examiners are faced with the task of discriminating unfamiliar images of unfamiliar objects within their general domain of expertise (e.g., fingerprints, faces, ...

As an ontologist philosopher Shaykh al – Isharq believes in a heirarchegal being on the basis of which presents his classification of various descriptions. These descriptions are various both in terms of longitudinal and latitudinal. That is, for instance though his intative descriptions are at the latitude of his logical analytic descriptions, possesses itself a longitudinal order successiv...

To reason competently about novel entities, people must discover whether the entity is alive and/or sentient. Exactly how people make this discovery is unknown, although past researchers have proposed that young children – unlike adults – rely chiefly on whether the object can move itself. This study examined the effect of goal-directed versus aimless autonomous movement on children’s and adult...

Cooperation is the foundation of many protocols in wireless networks. Without cooperation, the performance of a network significantly decreases. Hence, all nodes in traditional networks are required to cooperate with each other. In this paper, instead of traditional networks, a network of rational and autonomous nodes is considered, which means that each node itself can decide whe...
